It’s About Time

May 14, 2008

39 games into the MLB season, which is about 1/4 of the way through, the Tampa Bay Rays are currently 1st place in the AL East, one of the more competitive divisions out there. It took the team 10 years to finally achieve a potentially short-lived feat. But anyways, it is a good time to be a Rays fan now.

Jonny Gomes is now a basestealing specialist.

The reasons for the success of the Rays can be attributed to outstanding starting pitching, much improved relief pitching, aggressive baserunning, and clutch hits. Basically, the whole team is contributing right now and the team is doing really well.

Though I do not expect the team to retain the 1st place mantle, I do see the team as a playoff contender now. And making it into the playoffs would much bigger news.

This good feeling is probably much more fervent for those who were Rays fans their entire lives. I only became a Rays fan about 2 seasons ago. The good feeling felt by those lifelong Rays fans is probably equivalent to a parent seeing their retarded child suddenly becoming of above-average intelligence. It is that special.
