Ice Ice Baby

July 31, 2008

Today, on the last day of July, there was a moment where I was in a state of “gelidphoria.” (It appears reading a lot of Pynchon recently has given me the ability to make up words).

In sum, I was in Myrtle Ave in Brooklyn at around noon and I was very, very cold. And this coldness lasted for about half an hour and was incessant. It was the best feeling I had for a long time. In addition, I heard the song “I’m Easy” by the Commodores on the radio. This made me feel even better.

What I did was buy a small lemonade Coolatta from Dunkin Donuts. I traded $2.81 for gelidphoria.

In other news, baseball’s trading deadline is over and there was a blockbuster deal. Most Rays fans in the know know that a disgruntled Manny Ramirez has left Boston for LA, Jason Bay has gone to Boston, and the Pirates got 4 young players. This acquisition makes Boston a huge force in the AL East. The Rays, with no trades during the time, have to play a lot better in order to kept the AL East lead. The Yankees and Red Sox are much better than they were last week. The real diehard Rays fans are coping

I think the “New Facebook layout” sucks to be quite honest. Bascially the layout is wider and less narrow as a result. But my main qualm with it is how the news-feed and wall became merged. There are options to filter the wall, but it doesn’t look good anymore. The wall basically gets cut apart into slabs and spread in with news feed news and this is a mess. I hope this is either a failed beta-version or an optional layout that could be avoided all together. Because I think the old version was just fine, and this new one is a mess.

I’m sure many people have an account on last.fm and know how good that site is. Today, I discover that the beta version is now the norm, making the site a lot more easy to use and enjoy. I made my account in July 2006 (old account from April) and it is very interesting to see how your personal interests in music morph over time. Last.fm also allows you to discover new music and even offers free downloads of some songs. A very interesting site just got better.

I was checking out the website for Buddyhead for some unknown reason and I come across videos of a pre-bald Bill O’ Reilly getting really angry becuase he didn’t understand the teleprompter. I don’t understand how his show is conducted properly if he goes around doing this to people.

Dead Goon Vol. 2

July 10, 2008

I know it’s been a while since I wrote anything so I guess I’ll do it now since I got out of work early.

I don’t see how people do it, to work the 5 (maybe more) day workweek. In all honesty I like my summer job because it offers a good experience, provides solid pay, and demands fair working hours with plenty of breaks. But work in general, no matter what the profession, is taxing beyond belief. The amount of energy it drains out of you is astounding. I think all people who have had a job feel the seem way, even those who sat around and did nothing as a job. I don’t know how people do it.

Every morning waking up at 6:55 is a struggle. I hear the song “Epic” (Faith No More) loudly as if I were blasting it at 80. I set the snooze on my cellphone every day for a false “want” of a 9 minute extension of sleep but it is all a byproduct of trying to turn the damn thing (cellphone) off. And I do turn the damn thing off.

The walks in Jersey City and New York City usually involve me trying to pass slow/obese people who are hindering my progress. And this issue becomes more grave at World Trade Center where a gazillion busy people are getting to work and crowding the station and narrow walkway. There should be a thing where people get a mandatory average of walking speed and have it in their wallets. Then something could be set up where the slow people waddle at one lane and the faster people zip by the other lane. Things will run more smoothly. Though sometimes my nerve-damaged left leg tells me to walk slower, I don’t listen to it all the time because I have to get there.

And when I’m finally done and get home, I know how good the simple things are. And by simple things I mean juice, music, video game, chair, etc. I appreciate those things a lot more.

That is all for today.
